After the dispute over the termination of the Freiburg cathedral bandmaster Boris Böhmann by the archdiocese, another church musician now wants to smooth the waves.
The new provisional head of the Domsing School, church music director Godehard Weithoff (64), said in an interview with the Cologne internet portal domradio.de on Tuesday that he wanted to try to cure "inherit injuries".
Weithoff announced that it would first gain an exact picture of the structures, the rules of procedure and the internals of the cathedral music in order to make any corrections.
Despite his approaching retirement in about two years, he wanted to accept this task.
"Certainly I imagined these two years otherwise, but I think the good thing is worth committing to it – no matter what age."
Last year, the Archdiocese of Freiburg had Weithoff's long-standing predecessor Boris Böhmann cancelled.
