Ministry of Finance issues Christmas coin with Advent wreath

An Advent wreath under the Christmas tree?

This is a real option for coin collectors this year, because the Federal Ministry of Finance publishes a collector coin with an Advent wreath motif.

According to a spokesman for the ministry of the Catholic News Agency, the silver coin will be found at 25 euros on 21 January. November edited.

It is part of a series dedicated to Christmas as "one of the most important festivals of Christianity," says the Ministry.

The presentation on the coin interprets the theme of Advent wreath in its historical development.

It stylizes a carriage wheel, which refers to the predecessor of the Advent wreath, the "Wrey wreath".

He had 24 candles and was supposed to reduce the time until Christmas. His name goes back to the theologian and educator Johann Hinrich Wichern (1808-1881).

The Wichernrad passes on the coin into the tree wreath with its four candles, which is common today. A star with tail above the wreath refers to the star of Bethlehem.

"This is why the custom of the pre-Christmas Advent wreath is combined with the star of Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus," says the ministry.

Christmas coins since 2021

The collector coin is made of fine silver and has a diameter of 30 mm, and a weight of 22 g.

It can be hung on the Christmas tree with its protective cover.

The coin has a value of 25 Euros and can be ordered at a price of 45.95 euros.

The Advent wreath coin is part of a Christmas series of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

In 2021, a coin was published, which showed a modern crib display.

In 2022, the Herrnhuter Stern adorned the Christmas coin and in 2023 an Ore Mountains Schwibbogen.
