Allegations of abuse: Priests of the Schoenstatt movement arrested

A priest of the Schoenstatt movement has been arrested in the Argentine city of Cordoba on the orders of the prosecutor's office for allegations of abuse.

In recent days, the newspaper "La Nacion" reported on the allegations of sexual abuse against the 58-year-old Father Patricio Cruz Viale.

The reason for the arrest was a complaint that a 46-year-old woman had reimbursed earlier this year.

The presumed abuse is therefore said to have occurred in the office of the clergyman after the service.

The office is located on the site of the Schoenstatt movement in the district of Cerro de las Rosas in the northwest of the provincial capital of Cordoba.

Support and compassion for those affected

The provincial leader, Pablo Javier Pol, had already expressed his sympathy in a statement on Monday. It says that one feels "deep grief" in the face of the accusations and the arrest of Cruz Viale. Javier Pol spoke out to the alleged "support and compassion" affected.

"In the sense of transparency and truth, the community of Schoenstatt Fathers confirms that we have received an advertisement against Father Cruz Viale, which was submitted by an adult woman. This complaint was filed both in the ordinary criminal justice system and in the canonical sphere," the statement says.

"In this difficult time, our communion is united in prayer and asks for the healing and justice necessary for all those involved", says the Provincial Superior.

Cruz Viale has completed his doctorate in moral theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and has published numerous books, including spiritual impulses on the Gospels.

It belongs to the Schoenstatt movement, a Marian work founded in Germany in 1914 by Father Josef Kentenich, which is represented in 110 countries and advocates the spiritual renewal of the Catholic Church.

It is now represented in around 110 countries.

In recent years, allegations of abuse have made headlines.
