African delegates who participated in the October 4-29 XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome are expected to share their experience and lessons from the meeting in a webinar scheduled for November 15.
The virtual event has been initiated by the African Synodality Initiative (ASI), a partnership between the Jesuits Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM), the Symposium of the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), and the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA).
In a note shared with ACI Africa on Monday, October 30, ASI indicates that during the webinar, “speakers and panelists will reflect on the experience and lessons from the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.”
The Secretary General of SECAM, Fr. Rafael Simbine Junior, is to deliver the opening remarks at the virtual event that is being organized under the theme, “Walking the Synodal Path: Reflections on the Synod on Synodality – Voices from Africa.”
Archbishop Andrew Fuanya Nkea of Bamenda Archdiocese in Cameroon, who doubles as a member of the Ordinary Council of the Synod that was appointed by Pope Francis is to give the keynote address.

Other panelists include, Sr. Marie Solange Randrianirina, the Regional Provincial of the Pious Society of the Daughters of St. Paul (FSP) in Madagascar; the Secretary General of AMECEA, Fr. Anthony Makunde; and Ms. Sheila Pires, the communications officer of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC), who served as Secretary at the Synod Information Commission.
Fr. Andrew Kaufa, the
Coordinator of the Social Communications department of AMECEA, also a
consultor to the Dicastery for Communication at the Vatican, is to the
moderate the November 15 webinar session.
