The Institute for the Development of Women and Children (UDEMI) recently
organized a meeting with members of civil society, NGO representatives
and members of Alianza con la niñez to address the phenomenon of over
26,000 children who are exploited at work in the Country.
Among the
initiatives: the campaign "100 million for 100 million" was promoted
with the aim of making society aware and plan joint actions to eradicate
malpractices and abuse of children, through the participation of young
people.
Already in 1998 the Global March against child labor, and the
Global Campaign for Education were established in favor of a unitary
system to counter a practice that affects 100 million children around
the world, exposed to new forms of sexual child exploitation, or slavery
and mistreatment when they are young refugees.
There are still
thousands of indigenous children that in the face of misery drop out of
school and go to work in coffee plantations with their parents.
The
representative of the Committee for the Eradication of Child Labour also
claims that the situation of girls is doubly serious, in fact, many are
exploited as domestic servants and are forced to leave school.
