GHANA - Ghana to be re-consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ

The Holy Father, Pope Francis has confirmed Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello as his Envoy to preside over the Ecumenical and Inter-Faith Vespers for the re-consecration of Ghana to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. 

Cardinal Bertello will preside the Thanksgiving Mass for Ghana’s 60th Anniversary and the 40th Anniversary of the Nunciature on the 4th and 5th of March, 2017 respectively. 

The ceremony will take place at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, Accra. Cardinal Bertello will be assisted by the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana and the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference together with other Bishops and other Religious leaders. 


Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello is the President of the Pontifical Commission for Vatican City State and President of the Governorate of Vatican City State. He was Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to Ghana, Togo and Benin from 1987-1991. 


Ghana was first consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the 3rd of March, 1957 by the then Bishops of Ghana, three days to the decoration of Ghana’s’ independence in 1957.
