The
Apostolic Nuncio to Ivory Coast, His Excellency Archbishop Ambrose
Madtha, died Saturday evening in a serious car accident.
According to
preliminary information, the accident occured in Biankouma, west of the
capital, Abidjan.
The driver also died in the accident, while
the Nuncio’s secretary and a religious sister were injured.
Archbishop
Madtha, born in Belthangady, India, in 1955, had been Nuncio in Ivory
Coast since 2008, and was well known for his commitment to peace and
overcoming the recent tensions in the country.
