Today the media brings us sad news of
violence and war from around the world.
Today here in our own country we
are confronted daily with controversy about the right to life of the
born and unborn. During Advent we must take time out daily to
contemplate what the birth of Jesus means for all of us.
It means that God has become truly human
like you and me. In doing so He has transformed humanity and the whole
of creation. He is present in each one of us, in every person he meets
and in every experience of life.
The poet Hopkins always reminds us that
“the world is charged with the grandeur of God”.
God is nearer to each
one of us than we are to ourselves.
We must not allow what is happening to
the world or indeed in our own country to undermine our faith in God’s
presence every day and every moment of every day.
We must not allow the
worries and anxieties that are part of the preparation for Christmas
possess our hearts and minds. Prayer is the key that opens the heart and
allows Jesus to fill us with His life land love.
God is the source of all life and love. Only He can give life and only He can take it away.
May He fill your hearts this Christmas with his Life and His Love.
