Northern Ireland Secretary of State Theresa Villiers
was present, while there was also a representative of the Republic of
Ireland President Michael D. Higgins, together with the Stormont
Minister of Rural Development and Newry Armagh UUP MLA Danny Kennedy and
former Ulster Unionist politician Lord Kilclooney.
They were joined by the PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott and various mayors of councils in the Armagh diocese, which straddles Northern Ireland and the Republic.
Fellow bishops of Dr Clarke from the Church of Ireland House of Bishops attended, together with former primate and archbishop of Armagh the Rev Dr Robin Eames.
Cardinal Sean Brady, the Roman Catholic primate, was also in attendance, along with Presbyterian Moderator the Rev Dr Roy Patton and the Presbyterian General Assembly clerk the Rev Dr Donald Watts; the Methodist President in Ireland the Rev Ken Lindsay, as well as a representative of the Jewish community in Ireland.
Others present were Lord Caledon, Her Majesty’s Lieutenant for Co Armagh; and his wife; the Anglican archbishop of Wales the Rev Dr Barry Morgan and the secretary-general of the global Anglican Communion Ken Kearon.
A reception was held after the service in the Royal School, Armagh.
