Two men were arrested after a break-in to a church in Buncrana over the weekend.
The church was entered and a sum of cash was stolen from offertory boxes.
Gardai immediately launched an investigation and two men were detained.
The men were interviewed and charged to appear at a future sitting of the court.
The cash stolen during the burglary was also recovered.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed "Gardaí received a report of a theft from a premises on Cockhill Road, Buncrana, Co. Donegal on Saturday 3rd October 2026 shortly before 9.30am.
"Gardaí attended the scene and arrested two males (aged in their 30s) who were detained at a Donegal Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
"The two males have since been charged and released on bail.
"They are due to appear before Buncrana District Court."
Local Gardai have appealed to thos ein charge of places of worship to review the security measures that they currently have in place.
