New British ambassador presents credentials to Pope Leo

Great Britain’s new ambassador to the Holy See presented her credentials to the Pope on Friday, marking the formal start of her diplomatic role in Rome.

Meeting Leo XIV in the Apostolic Palace on August 28, Tammy Sandhu MBE was thus received formally by the Pontiff in the poignant meeting which marks a key stage in Vatican diplomacy.

Announced as incoming ambassador in May, Sandhu assumes the role upon the departure of Ambassador Chris Trott CVO.

“I was immensely proud to meet Pope Leo XIV and formally accept my appointment as British Ambassador to the Holy See,” Sandhu stated after the papal audience.
