The Spanish bishops have publicly rejected so-called "conversion therapies" for homosexuals.
They received praise for this from the Madrid-based organisation of Christian homosexuals (CRISMHOM), as Spanish media reported on Sunday.
Cardinal José Cobo from Madrid and Bishop José Antonio Satué from Málaga in particular were praised for resisting the pressure to promote conversion therapies.
Both would "open their arms to welcome us instead of forcing a conversion on us where we would have to renounce the gift of the rainbow with which we have been blessed," according to a statement from CRISMHOM.
The group's words followed statements from both churchmen earlier this month. Cardinal Cobo emphasised the need for the Church to "accompany" people who identify as LGBT.
Bishop Satué, who was appointed to Málaga by Pope Leo XIV in June, similarly emphasised a pastoral approach that avoids confrontation and is characterised by inclusivity.
At the end of August, around 160 participants from all continents came together in Madrid for a Catholic LGBTQ conference.
A letter from the Cardinal was read out at the conference in which he called on the Church to avoid any form of discrimination against LGBTQ Catholics. Cobo is, among other things, Vice President of the Spanish Bishops' Conference.
