Kilkenny parish calls for support after Bishop makes plea to locals

The Kilmanagh parish is recruiting altar servers to join their already established teams with applications are open to children who have received their first holy communion and upwards.

The local parish is one of many across the county seeking to fill altar server and other voluntary roles in the church amidst shortages across the country.

Earlier this year, Bishop Niall Coll has urged Kilkenny parishes to revive the practice of having altar servers at weekend masses with efforts set to be made to encourage boys and girls to serve at mass.

It's widely believed greater assistance is needed across the Diocese of Ossory with recent priest rotations making meaning many in the Diocese of Ossory, particularly in rural areas, have to serve more than one parish due to priest shortages.
