Wexford priest attempts to stop rock n’ roll band coming to town in new musical

A coffee morning recently held in the Presentation Arts Centre was well attended by music lovers as the organisers of the event are behind the upcoming production of Paddy’s Band.

Enniscorthy woman Adrienne Murphy formed the group ‘Buddy Enniscorthy’ in 2017 to bring to life their production of The Buddy Holly Story in aid of Pieta.

Following on from this great success, they decided to create and bring to the stage their own original production called ‘Rock‘n’Roll to the Rescue’ in 2022 and 2023 which in total has raised €43,000 over the years.

Staging their first show since 2023, they are back with another original production called ‘Paddy's Band - When Rock n’ Roll Came to Rural Ireland’ with a cast full of local artists and actors.

The plot of the story focuses a farmer's son named Paddy who has decided to put together a band despite wary opposition by his mother.

The project is a family affair as Paddy’s ‘man-mad’ sister Maura sets her sites on bandmate Frederick.

Things escalate when local parish priest Fr. Magillacuddy hears about their plans and decides to do everything in his power to put a stop to it.

Cameron Cloke will be playing the lead role of Paddy, with local performers Dick Butler, Kara Kinsella, and Rachel Green joining the main cast.

Featuring music from Dion and the Belmonts, Eddie Cochran, The Drifters, and Wanda Jackson, the show is set to get its audiences dancing in the aisles.

To add to the fundraising appeal, Adrienne held a coffee morning and cake sale to get the ball rolling which was well-enjoyed by everyone who attended.

The show is set to take place in the Presentation Arts Centre in May, with more details to come.
