Appeal for attendance at funeral of man with no known relatives

A public appeal has been made following the death of a Galway man who had no known next of kin.

Matt Laffey, of Reddington Road in Shantalla, Galway City, passed away on March 13.

With no relatives coming forward, his funeral arrangements were delayed pending the approval of the coroner.

Conneely Funeral Directors, who are overseeing the arrangements, confirmed that no family members had been identified.

They also noted that Mr. Laffey was well known and liked in the local community, and they expect many neighbours and friends to attend.

Despite the expected community turnout, a broader appeal has been made via Galway Bay FM to ensure Mr. Laffey is not laid to rest alone.

His funeral Mass will take place at the Sacred Heart Church on Seamus Quirke Road at 10am on Monday, April 28.

He will be buried alongside family members in Rahoon Cemetery.
