Fr Paul Murphy was seriously injured in the incident and was rushed to University Hospital Galway (UHG) on the night of August 15, where he underwent surgery.
A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has since been charged with attempted murder in connection with the stabbing.
However, Fr Murphy was able to take part in a remembrance service for those who died in World War I at the barracks in Renmore, Galway on Saturday morning, alongside Bishop of Galway Michael Duignan.
Businessman Declan Ganley shared a photo of himself with Fr Murphy on social media this evening, reporting that the chaplain is making “a very steady recovery” following his ordeal.
“Good to spend some quality time this morning with the wonderful Fr Paul Murphy, military chaplain at Renmore Barracks, Galway,” wrote Mr Ganley, who is the CEO of Rivada Networks.
“Many of you will remember that Fr Paul was the victim of a brutal knife attack at the gates of the barracks earlier this year. He is making a very steady recovery and presided alongside the bishop of Galway this morning at the remembrance service for those Galway men and women that lost their lives in the Great War.”
The day after the attack, Fr Murphy posted on social media as he awaited surgery in hospital, thanking people for their good wishes.
“Friends, thank you for your prayers, love, and concern. Sorry that I can’t reply to all messages and take all the calls coming my way. I’m doing okay; just awaiting surgery. All will be well,” he said.
