Fresh calls for Louth County Council to rescind Brother Edmund Garvey's Freedom of Drogheda

The Brothers grim: Confronting an 'unpardonable' past | Independent.ie

There's been more calls for The Freedom of Drogheda to be taken from Brother Edmund Garvey after a civil case against the former province leader of the Christian Brothers has been brought forward by two men who were sexually abused by another Brother Jack Manning.

There is no accusation of wrongdoing in any way against Garvey, but, it is alleged however that the Christian Brothers failed in their duty of care to the boys sexually abused by Jack Manning.

Br Edmund Garvey was born in Drogheda in 1945.

In 1997, he was awarded with the Freedom of the City honour in Drogheda, something that Independent councillor Maeve Yore in recent months has called to be rescinded.

Damian O’Farrell, Independent Cllr on Dublin City Council and abuse survivor has also called on Louth County Council to support abuse victims and take the freedom of city honour away.
