Caritas agency launches in Diocese of Shrewsbury

Saturday 4th February saw the launch of Caritas Shrewsbury, the official Caritas agency to co-ordinate Catholic social action in the Diocese.

Mike Kane, MP for Sale and Wythenshawe, spoke to some 140 participants of the difficulties which emerge in his constituency, and how he looks to the faith communities to support initiatives which will alleviate suffering and isolation.

, presenting Shrewsbury's link to Caritas nationally, the history of Caritas in Europe and the legacy those in the Shrewsbury Diocese will be continuing. The event culminated with Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Mark Davies.

Mary Kilcoyne, CEO of Caritas Shrewsbury, said
: "I was so delighted that so many people from different parts of the Diocese were able to join us on the day. There was a great atmosphere and Caritas staff were kept busy answering questions and talking about what they were achieving on the frontline. The event was a great expression of the hope for the diocese in its commitment to social action."
