This coming Sunday at 10:15 am, Francis will celebrate a mass and
preside over the canonization of seven blesseds.
These figures include
José Gabriel del Rosario Brochero, also known as “Cura” (priest)
Brochero, whom Bergoglio is so fond of and José Sánchez del Río, the
“Cristero” boy, who was martyred in of the most atrocious acts of
Christian persecution.
The Pope prayed at his tomb during his visit to
Mexico.
The Vatican has informed that other figure who will be receiving the
sainthood are: the Blessed Salomone Leclerq, Manuel González García,
Alfonso Maria Fusco, Lodovico Pavoni and Elizabeth of the Trinity, born
Elizabeth Catez, a young Discalced Carmelite from Dijon whom John Paul
II beatified in 1984.
The Order of the Discalced Carmelites is
organising a special event in her honour, titled “Heaven on Earth”,
which is to take place next Friday in the Baroque church of Santa Maria
della Vittoria in Via XX Settembre in Rome, where Bernini’s Ecstasy of Saint Teresa will
be the background for an original theatrical interpretation, based on
the texts of the Blessed Elizabeth.
The conversation surrounding the
mystic will be led by the Archbishop Emeritus of Palermo Cardinal
Salvatore De Giorgi and the Biblicist Rosanna Virgili and moderated by
Raffaele Luise.
Elizabeth of the Trinity will be impersonated by
Marianna Masciolini - pupil of Italian actor and theatre director Luca
Ronconi - with a live performance of Bach’s Cello Suite in D Minor.
