Married priest claims that the Catholic church leadership is 'full of pretenders'

A man has come out claiming that the Catholic Church leadership is “full of pretenders”.

Father James Gichuru told The Nairobian that many priests and nuns are abusing their celibacy vows.

Fr Gichuru quit the Catholic Church in 2000 forming his Ecumenical Catholic Church.

Gichuru used to worship at the Baba Dogo Catholic before he left and formed the breakaway church.

“I wish to congratulate you for the wonderful coverage of the Roman Catholic hypocrisy. The so-called vows of chastity, obedience and poverty are absolute lies and blackmail,” Gichuru said while reacting to The Nairobian story on sex scandals in the church.

A nun has claimed Catholic priests close to the leadership have turned into sex pests. She said she was living in fear since well-connected priests were pestering her for sex.

Gichuru was a seminarian when he quit because he allegedly did not want to compromise his principles on Christianity. He claims that many priests and nuns engaged in sex and were only in the church for self-aggrandisement.

“The reason that made me to leave was a lot of hypocrisy in the church, I wanted to leave an honest life. Those people (priests and nuns) are there because of free lodging, food, cash and cars,” claimed the father.

Gichuru is now married and has a seven-year-old daughter. He was ordained in 2011 to head the splinter church rivaling the Roman Catholic Church.

But the latter has brushed off the sex allegations insisting they are rumours.

“I have a lot to share with you and please help me to reach more people through the media. We can make an arrangement we meet and share more. All God’s blessings,” said Gichuru.
