The archbishop-elect of St Andrews and Edinburgh revealed the
names of the senior Catholic clergymen who will be the traditional three
principal consecrators at his Episcopal ordination for St Andrews and
Edinburgh next month.
Cardinal James Michael Harvey, Archpriest of the Patriarchal
Basilica of St Paul-outside-the Walls, Archbishop Antonio Mennini, the
Apostolic nuncio to Great Britain, and Archbishop Philip Tartaglia of
Glasgow will preside over the ordination of Mgr Leo Cushley, the former
head of the English-language section of the Vatican’s Secretariat of
State, on September 21 at St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh.
US Cardinal Harvey, Mgr Cushley’s first superior in the Secretariat
of State, will be the principal consecrator and principal celebrant of
the Mass of Episcopal Ordination/Consecration.
Archbishop Tartaglia was named as Apostolic administrator of the
Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh when Cardinal Keith O’Brien
retired in the spring.
Motherwell priest Mgr Cushley, who last met with Pope Francis
earlier this month, said the Holy Father has ‘promised willingly to
pray for all of us’ in St Andrews and Edinburgh.
