The Archdeacon of Brecon is walking 40 miles this week in support of two family centres.
The centres are run by Faith in Families, a charity of the Diocese of
Swansea and Brecon which provides child and family support services in
disadvantaged areas.
The walk will take Alan Jevons from the Bonymaen centre in Swansea to St John's Family Centre, opened last year, in Brecon.
He will be joined by staff and volunteers from the centres for the walk, which spans three days.
Mr Jevons is chair of the Diocesan Board for Social Responsibility
and has previously walked the West Highland Way and the Coast to Coast
path.
He hopes the walk will draw attention to the vital work family centres do.
"Our centres are dedicated to meeting the needs and demand of the children, families and whole communities they serve," he said. "They provide everything from playgroups afterschool clubs to parenting classes and subsidised family holidays. We were very excited to be able to open a new and vibrant centre in
Brecon last year and are glad to see it is already being well used. Hopefully this walk and celebration event will help promote the work
of our projects, encourage more volunteers and supporters and more
importantly make those people who can benefit from our help become more
aware of us, what we do and what is available to them."
A celebration will be held at St John's Family Centre, Brecon, to mark the end of the walk on Friday.
