New pilgrims' route to follow footsteps of St Brendan the Navigator

A new pilgrims’ route has been launched – the Kerry Camino – which will take walkers from St John’s church in the heart of Tralee on a 35-mile journey west along the northern side of the Dingle peninsula.

It follows the footsteps of St Brendan the Navigator, the local saint credited with discovering America.
The way was launched by keen walker and Minister for Tourism Jimmy Deenihan.

There are real links between the ancient Spanish pilgrim walk and the west Kerry area, with many medieval graves in Kerry containing the trademark scallop indicating these were people who had gone on pilgrimage to relics of St James in Santiago de Compostela.

Walkers can have their logbook stamped every 12km along the route.
