Legionaries cannot be reformed, former member argues

Writing for First Things, Father Thomas Berg, a former member of the Legion of Christ, argues that the troubled religious order cannot be reformed.

Father Berg says that even after the Vatican intervention to promote reform, the leadership of the Legion has “fostered a culture of institutional opposition to the radical reform that is truly required.”

His essay in First Things appears just after Jason Berry, who helped to expose the corruption in the Legion and in the life of the order’s founder, the late Father Marcial Maciel, reports new evidence that ranking officials in the Roman Curia helped to hide the evidence of that corruption.
