Ex-Brother faces 138 counts of indecent assault at primary school and pool

A former Christian Brother has been charged with 138 counts of indecent assault on boys at a primary school in Limerick city more than 30 years ago.
Séamus Treacy (70), Ashton Close, Swords, Dublin, appeared before Limerick District Court last Thursday on the charges which concern 13 alleged victims.

He is charged with 138 counts of indecent assault on boys at CBS primary school, Sexton Street, Limerick, and at St Enda’s swimming pool, Kilmallock Road, Limerick, between 1978 and 1981.

Judge Eugene O’Kelly refused a request for reporting restrictions, saying the case was one of “considerable antiquity” and there was no question of the alleged victims still being minors.

He granted free legal aid “in view of the extreme seriousness and multiplicity of the charges” and remanded Mr Ashton on bail until July 24th.
