Cardinal Luis Aponte Martinez of San Juan, Puerto Rico, recently
asked singer Ricky Martin to refrain from promoting homosexuality and to
set a good example for young people.
“Personally I admire Ricky for the great artistic gifts the Lord has
given him, but I implore him, for the love of his children … to strive
to be an example for our young people of the important values that we
all share, including sexuality.
“In this way he will be thanking the Lord for the great gifts he has
been given,” the cardinal told the Puerto Rican daily Primera Hora on
April 8.
The Church “does not reject the homosexual person, but rather the actions and conduct that go against morality.”
“To foster homosexuality or sexual promiscuity among our young people
is certainly immoral no matter where it comes from,” the cardinal
added.
