Northern Ireland victims of child sex abuse within the Catholic church are to meet Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness. In a letter, the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister said safeguarding children was a key priority for the Executive.
A date for the meeting has not yet been agreed.
Survivors, who suffered years of abuse as children, have welcomed what they described as a remarkable move.
The policy responsibility for this area falls to the Justice, Health and Education departments but it is understood the first and deputy first ministers are happy to meet with and listen to the views of the small delegation.
Margaret McGuckin who spent seven years in the care of the Sisters of Nazareth says she hopes the meeting will take place before the end of the summer.
"What we do need and for a lot of people, is the inquiry as to how this was allowed to go on.
"Also for a lot of people, who are very old and elderly, compensation has to be set up by the state and the church, acting together in NI as they did in the Republic.
"People are passing away and they haven't even had anything there to compensate their own families in anyway."
