Archdiocese of Manila warns of fake priest

Officials of the Manila Catholic Archdiocese warned the public against a fake priest who is allegedly asking people for donations.

The Manila Archdiocese on Thursday identified the fake priest as Ritchie Verdeflor Buenavides, who introduces himself as Rev. Paulus Maria Sanguinis Sacris.

The warning was issued on July 19, based on a letter of Bro. Francis Joseph of the Brothers of Mercy of St. John of God in Bocaue, Bulacan to Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales.

Joseph said Buenavides might use their congregation’s name “San Juan de Dios" in soliciting money for his supposed priestly ordination on July 29 at the “Holy Family Catholic Church" in Kapatiran Village, Pasong Buaya II, Imus, Cavite.

However, the CBCP said there is no Holy Family Catholic Church in Imus, Cavite.

Buenavides, claims he will assume the religious name Fr. Paulus Maria Sanguinis Sacriz, MSSPP.

He allegedly goes around Manila soliciting donations for his ordination to be performed by Bishops Johannes Vincent Irenaeus, Jose Maria Emmanuel and Petrus Paulus, all members of MSSPP.

"There are no bishops of these names listed in the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines directory," the CBCP said.

It also said the 2008-2009 Catholic Directory of the Philippines has no listing for the Missionary Society of Sts. Peter and Paul, said to be based in Manila.
