Ireland Still Awaits Appointment of 3 New Bishops

....and as Il Papa decides to adjourn to his Alpine retreat for a few days or so, here in Ireland yet again the waiting game continues to be played out in the following dioceses as they await the appointments of their new incumbents to the local cathedra

Achonry - where the current Bishop, Thomas Flynn, has now the distinguished honour of being on the Purple Parliament benches for 30 years now...he is now just gone 76 years of age and certainly could do with the rest..

Down & Connor is also due a replacement but the locals are not all too enthused about the possible successor being current auxiliary McKeown which is proving to be no doubt somewhat inconvenient for the Vatican as he is well known to be in the current papal favourite list....

Bishop Walsh is currently enthroned there but now at 77 years of age and having served for a number of years certainly needs to retire....

Diocese of Ossory also is seeking a replacement to Bishop Forristal who is also now 76 years old and has also served for some considerable time in this position.

It is widely known that Professor Emeritus Dr Vincent Twomey is hotly tipped to take charge of this diocese but again the terna list for this diocese, as indeed with both named above have been with Rome for some time now so the waiting game must be played....

We await that which is no doubt imminent but how long that is may well be beyond our actual giving a damn at this stage despite the promises emanating from St. Peters that the appointments were to be announced after Easter, but then again no actual year was mentioned!!!
