Calgary's top Catholic is applauding his Vancouver counterpart's bid for a Telus boycott over cellphone pornography, but Bishop Fred Henry stopped short of calling for his flock to cancel service with the telecommunications giant.
Vancouver's Archbishop Raymond Roussin has asked Catholic schools and churches not to renew mobile phone contracts with Telus after receiving complaints regarding the issue. Canada's second-largest phone company offers pornographic photos and videos to customers -- a service it introduced in January, making it the first wireless provider in the country to do so.
Henry called Telus' offer morally reprehensible.
Telus spokesman Jim Johannsson says the company is not breaking the law nor providing something that has not been available on cellphones for some time.
