A Kansas City, Kansas, priest has been allowed to return to the ministry after allegations of misconduct involving a minor.
The Archdiocese of Omaha concluded its preliminary investigation into the allegations against Reverend Eric Flood of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP). The alleged behavior occurred more than 20 years ago while he was serving in the Archdiocese of Omaha.
“The preliminary investigation by the archdiocese and civil authorities did not uncover evidence sufficient to substantiate the allegation or establish wrongdoing,” the archdiocese said in a news release. “Father Flood was serving as Chaplain of Saint John Vianney in Maple Hill, Kansas, when the allegation was reported.”
In July 2026, the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas was notified by FSSP of the allegation against Father Flood. The Archdiocese of Omaha then reported the allegation to law enforcement and launched a preliminary investigation.
In accordance with church law, Father Flood was temporarily suspended.
“After carefully considering the investigation’s findings and consulting the archdiocesan independent review board and other canonical, legal and ministerial experts, Archbishop Shawn McKnight of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas has lifted the imposed precautionary measures, and Father Flood will resume as Chaplain of Saint John Vianney on Oct. 12,” the archdiocese said.
“The archbishop is grateful to Father Flood for his full cooperation throughout the investigation and for complying with the requirements established during that time for the good of the church.”
Anyone with knowledge about misconduct by a church volunteer, employee, religious or clergy member is encouraged to contact civil authorities first, then call or text the Archdiocese’s confidential report line at 913-276-8703 or online at archkck.org/reportabuse.
