The Pugin-designed administrative headquarters of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh has been placed on the market for sale.
The archdiocese announced in April that the site, which was founded in 1834, just five years after Catholic emancipation, would be sold due to rising maintenance costs and changing needs.
Ahead of the Gillis Centre’s September 14 placement on the market, preparations have taken place for its sale.
The chapel on the grounds, dedicated to St Margaret of Scotland, is a Category A listed building and was designed by architect James Gillespie Graham, who also designed the Glenfinnan Monument, St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral in Edinburgh and St Andrew’s Catholic Cathedral in Glasgow.
