The following blurb is from An Post themselves, and we quote,
'An Post's Christmas stamps are a visual treat every year. Because they are so important, we devote a lot of effort to making sure they are special! We enjoy thinking about how excited people are in happy anticipation of both sending and receiving cards, letters and parcels, and of all the occasions they will enjoy with friends and family.
This year's selection acknowledges both the religious and secular aspects of Christmas. the stamps capture the pure joy of the season, with a distinctly Irish feel and, in some cases, a touch of humour.
With a warm colour palette, enlivened by festive gold, the Christmas stamps for 2026 are moving and fun. They feature the three Magi, a playful scene of robins sending and receiving Christmas cards, the peace represented by lighted candles at a church service, an angel, a stag, and a very Irish snowman in an Aran jumper.
The joyous images on this season's Christmas stamps can mean the world to loved ones, at home and abroad. They will certainly enliven the Christmas posting of 2026, making each delivery that much more special.' (end quote)
So, Christmas is both a religious and a secular 'season'.....could someone in An Post care to explain that contradiction.....and note that the same wording was used in promoting last year's 'effort'...(quote from 2025) 'This year's offering honours both the religious and the secular aspects of Christmas.' (unquote)
A distinctly Irish feel is in effect, a snowman wearing an Aran jumper....oh wow wee...a cheap take on the issuing earlier this year by An Post of stamps 'honouring' the Aran jumper in lieu of St Patrick's Day stamps and first day cover.
It seems as if An Post is working very hard and deliberately to forget anything religious when it comes to issuing stamps in this country....and at a major cost to itself and to our culture.
Perhaps it is about time that An Post needs to take a long hard look at the crap it calls Christmas stamps, go back to its drawing board and get serious about itself.
Our next door neighbour in the UK, Royal Mail, can see no issue in producing religious stamps for the Christmas season without losing the run of itself in being both 'religious and secular', and especially so in a country whereby it is almost on a balance of religious and secularity vis-a-vis population.
Take heed An Post - go woke, go broke.
