Fr Pádraig Murphy, St Mary’s Parochial House, Ravensdale, Dundalk, was summonsed for careless driving following an incident which occured at Jenkinstown Post Office, Jenkinstown, Dundalk, which also incorporates a shop and fuel pumps.
When the case was called a solicitor for Fr Murphy, who was present, entered a guilty plea on his behalf.
Court presenter Sgt Richie Browne said that at 8.25pm on May 13, 2025, gardaí attended the scene of a road traffic collision outside the post office, where a dog had been knocked down by the defendant.
Judge Nicola Andrews asked if the dog was on a lead, and the sergeant replied that he did not have that information.
Defence solicitor Fergal Boyle said that the dog may have been tied to a pedestrian barrier, adding that his client didn’t know what came over him when he lost control of his car as he turned in to the premises.
Judge Andrews struck out the summons.
