Mother and baby home survivors and campaigners are sleeping out at the site of Sean Ross Abbey tonight

They’re calling on the government to do a full excavation on the grounds in Roscrea similar to what’s underway at Tuam.

They say 23 adult and 1,090 babies died there but there’s no burial records to account for them.

Campaigner Michael Donovan says Tipperary politicians need to do more to find the truth of what happened:

It’s a hard thing to ask survivors to come and stay here even though they’re up for it. I mean, we have women here in their 70s, and they’re going to camp out overnight to get the government, to get off their arse. It’s not good enough to come down and dig 10% of it, find 32 remains and another bones to make up 10 more individuals, which is 42, the nuns handed in 269 debt certs. 1,090 die here plus 23 adults, none of it makes sense. We want answers, we’re not going to stop till we get answers. First of all, we want our politicians to start helping.
