US bishop plans new community of priests

US Bishop Robert Barron is planning to found a new community of priests.

According to the announcement, this will consist of three to five priests and just as many novices.

A suitable house has already been secured thanks to a generous donor, it is said.

The priests are to live in community according to a rule established by Barron and ensure the work of the evangelisation initiative "Word on Fire Catholic Ministries", which he founded 25 years ago, continues in the future.

One of his goals is to become a leader in evangelisation. To this end, the bishop wants to enter the film and publishing business, among other things.

A complete English-language edition of the works of the former German Pope Benedict XVI is planned, as well as documentary and feature films.

However, Barron is looking for donors for this project in order to cover the considerable sum of 25 million dollars.

Robert Barron has been Bishop of Winona-Rochester (Minnesota) since 2022.

Before that, he was an auxiliary bishop in Los Angeles.

In the middle of last year, he got into a media dispute with the Italian theologian and church historian Massimo Faggioli, who teaches in the USA and who had linked parts of American Catholicism with Donald Trump in a guest article.
