Standardised aptitude tests for church employees in Switzerland

The Catholic Church in Switzerland wants to introduce standardised nationwide aptitude tests for church employees - and thus "identify problematic personalities at an early stage".

The tabloid "Blick" (Friday) quotes from the corresponding resolution of the Swiss bishops.

According to an internal paper, the preparations are to start in June, with the procedure to begin in 2025.

According to Blick, the bishops are also planning an ecclesiastical criminal and disciplinary court.

Until now, each diocese has dealt with this on its own, leading to legal errors, according to the newspaper.

A national court should professionalise the processes and ensure that the full range of canon law is used to convict offenders within the church.
