LOCAL councillor Jackser Owens told members of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council during their December monthly meeting that thieves have taken items from his own family’s grave in Bunclody.
“In Bunclody there are items being taken off graves, including our own family grave,” he told the fully attended meeting.
"Can we put cameras in there or something in there that can be seen? Because there are a lot of thieves taking property off of graves, it is unbelievable,” he said.
Sgt Kennedy from Bunclody Garda Station said that the station hasn’t had any reports of grave robbing in the area over the past number of weeks.
“There was an issue with grave robbing about three years ago in the area, but we rectified that,” she said.
Extra patrols were sent to patrol around the cemetary in Bunclody at the time in a successful effort to deter thieves.
