Let’s Work to Foster Vocations to Priestly, Religious Life: Catholic Nun in South Sudan

The people of God in South Sudan need to work towards the fostering of vocations to Priestly and Religious Life, a Catholic Nun in the country has said.

Sr. Regina Achan who was speaking during the Holy Mass to mark her Golden Jubilee as a Religious Nun on Monday, February 13 encouraged young people to look out for the deepest inclinations of their hearts by listening “to the voice of God.”

We always need to work toward the increase of vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life, which is very important in our life as Christians,” Sr. Achan said.

The member of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SHS) added in reference to vocations to Priestly and Religious Life, “We have to make a commitment to pray for this intention every day as a family, perhaps at mealtime.”

The South Sudanese Catholic Nun advocated for church attendance, saying that young people “need to come to Church in order to listen to the voice of God because it will help them to identify which voice is speaking to them.”

“There are many voices that are calling,” she said during the event celebrated at Christ the King Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, and added, “If we can listen to the call and voice of God, we will have a better life because it’s only the life of the Church that will make us safe.”

Becoming a Catholic Priest or a Consecrated person comes from responding to God’s call, the member of the Religious Order of women that was founded in Juba, South Sudan, by Bishop Sisto Mazzoldi in 1954 said.

“There are many things happening in the country because our hearts and minds are away from the call of God,” Sr. Achan said, making reference to the aftermath of the protracted violent conflicts in South Sudan.

She called on the young people in the world’s youngest nation “to prioritize education because too much of social life can easily be destructive to the future.”

“I encourage you to put education at the forefront of your focus in order to make good choices for the future,” Sr. Achan emphasized during her Golden Jubilee as a Religious Nun on February 13, and continued, “I encourage you boys and girls to study because it’s only through education that you will be able to achieve something.”
