It’s just as well water metering hasn’t been introduced at a Co Limerick church.
Three sisters brought along their five babies to be christened in Doon, all in the one ceremony.
Parish priest Fr Tony Ryan ensured the holy water font was brimming when sisters, Sarah, Laura and Kate (born Ryan), from Gurtnakisteenm, Pallasgreen arrived with their two sets of twins and a baby girl wrapped in white baptismal robes.
Fr Ryan said he had never baptised so many children in one day apart from when he was on the missions.
The five-in-one baptism was the brainchild of Sarah, who is married to Gavin Whelan.
The couple’s twins, Evelyn and Ronan are aged one and the family lives in Surrey in England.
Sarah didn’t want to have family members travel to England for the baptism of her twins.
She said: "I said to Kate when her little girl, Lucy, was born in October maybe I would have it at Christmas time and she could join in. Then we thought we would hang on for the Cullen twins as they were due in December and Connie and Tom Cullen duly arrived on schedule to proud parents Oliver and Laura, who live in Cavan."
Lucy, daughter of Declan and Kate Ryan who live in Doon, is six months old.
Sarah went on: "Once the Cullen twins arrived we said wouldn’t it be one nice opportunity to get the whole family together and have everybody christened in the one go. So we decided all together, the three of us, that it would be a nice idea. It was a once in a life-time chance."
They contacted Fr Ryan who helped finalise plans for the ceremony.
He said: " It was a very special family day for them all.
