The debate over the closure of the Vatican embassy looks set to continue, with Galway Deputy Micheál Kitt looking for a “quick resolution” to the situation.
Speaking to the Select Committee on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Debate, Deputy Kitt enquired as to what progress had been made in securing the shared use of the Villa Spada.
He added that the matter had been raised in the Dáil previously and called for a resolution to be brought to a swift conclusion.
“The Tánaiste mentioned the three missions that were closed. Now that Mr Cooney is the accredited ambassador to the Vatican, what progress has been made in securing the shared used of the Villa Spada? The issue has been raised in the Dáil and should be brought to finality. I hope it can be resolved because many people are still raising concerns in that regard.”
