VATICAN: CHURCHES CAN BE NAMED FOR POPE JOHN PAUL II

The decree on the cult of John Paul II allows the possibility of "dedicating a church to God in honor of the newly beatified.

There will be no need for specific authorization by the Holy See if the diocese interested in doing so has already decided to insert the newly beatified in its liturgy, which is fixed in the liturgical calendar for October 22 in Rome and Poland.

Or if it has already been done in his name by the relevant episcopal conference; "The choice of naming a church for the beatified John Paul II," a note from the Congregation of the Faithful reads, "requires permission from the Holy See except when celebrations are already included in the calendar. In these cases there is no need to request permission and the Blessed after whom the church is names may hold celebrations in his honor." . .
