Catholic Third World Agency Trócaire recently joined forces with an Irish University to launch a new policy initiative entitled Education for a Just World.
The initiative by Trócaire and the Centre for Human Rights and
Citizenship Education (CHRCE), which is based at Saint Patrick’s
University in Drumcondra in Dublin, is a partnership that aims to build
on the collaboration that has taken place between the CHRCE and Trócaire
and bring together the expertise in global education of both partners.
According to Trócaire, “The partnership aims to promote and enhance
education for global justice in the primary education sector by
research, developing materials and supporting the professional
development of both teachers and pre-school educators.”
Speaking at the launch the Deputy Head of Trócaire Eamon Meehan said,
“Trócaire brings a strong development education focus to the
partnership with its particular knowledge of issues as experienced in
the countries where we run programmes. Saint Patrick's College brings
educational expertise from a whole range of disciplines within the
college. Trócaire also recognises the particular commitment of the
college to human rights issues with its centre for Human Rights
Education and Citizenship and the added dimension it brings to the
partnership.”
The President of Saint Patrick's College, Professor Pauric Travers
also revealed that, “although the partnership was only officially
launched this week it has already carried out significant research into
young children's engagement with global justice issues and it is near to
completing its first educational resource.”
The resource, a story sack, builds on the research and provides
support for exploring global justice in early childhood educational
settings.
This resource is due to be launched in April.
