Woman sues retired priest, Sioux City Diocese over alleged abuse

A new lawsuit has been filed alleging sexual abuse by a Siouxland priest back in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

Nancy Prince, who now lives in Texas, alleges Monsignor Nicholas Ruba sexually abused her several times when he was a parish priest at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City.

In a civil lawsuit Prince alleges Ruba took "advantage" of her on multiple occasions when she did projects at the church from the time she was 14-years-old up until age 21.

She's suing Ruba, and the Diocese of Sioux City, claiming the Diocese knew about the alleged abuse and covered it up.

Prince wants a jury trial and compensation for emotional distress and damages.

The Sioux City Diocese issued a statement saying they were first notified of this alleged abuse in 2006.

At that time began an internal investigation and contacted the county attorney.

The Diocese learned that same year that Prince did not wish to file a formal complaint against Ruba or the Diocese.

Monsignor Ruba is now 85-years-old. He retired in 1996.
