JPII beatification expected within a year

Pope John Paul II's beatification is speeding up and could possibly happen within a year, with doctors telling the Vatican that they have no scientific explanation for the cure of a French nun from Parkinson's Disease.

The two doctors were from an outside commision consulted by the Vatican to evaluate the possible miracle, said Rome Reports.

The 44-year-old nun, Marie Simon-Pierre, had been struggling with Parkinson's since 2001 but was reportedly cured a couple of months after the former pontiff's death in 2005.

If Pope Benedict approves it in the coming spring, as expected, the beatification could then take place within a year's time, possibly in October 2011, coinciding with the 33rd anniversary of when John Paul II was elected pope, said the report.

The medical board evaluating the extraordinary healing meets in December to make an official decision, after which the Congregation for the Causes of Saints will verify that all procedures were followed in the process and ask Pope Benedict to officially declare the miracle as being authentic.
