A leading priest has warned that the church, the banks or the health sector won't work into the future unless there is a fundamental change in their leadership.
This was the warning sounded by the founder of the Ceifin Centre in Shannon, County Clare and Sixmilebridge Parish Priest Fr Harry Bohan.
The Ceifin Centre which promotes debate on social change issues regularly holds a conference in November.
However Fr Bohan revealed this week that the organisation is to change this format.
He said that instead of the November conference, a large event focused on leadership is being planned for next year to focus.
At last year’s conference entitled Who is in Charge, Fr Bohan, one of Ireland's leading sociologists said, “Our society is reeling from the collapse of institutions that once enjoyed unquestioned authority. We have inherited top down models of leadership where questioning and dissent were not tolerated, protection of the institution was primary and these models alienated people on the ground and breed a culture of dependence.”
“The leadership of the future must be rooted in values, values such as telling the truth, which is required as a matter of honour in any civilised society.”
Details of the Ceifin leadership conference will be revealed in the coming weeks.
