Omaha priest turns himself in to face theft charge

An Omaha priest suspected of stealing thousands from his parish has turned himself in to police.

Police Sgt. Bill Dropinski says the Rev. Rodney Adams surrendered around 7 o'clock Wednesday morning at police headquarters in downtown Omaha.

Dropinski says Adams was booked into the jail on a charge of theft by deception.

Last month, the Omaha Archdiocese said that more than $83,000 had been stolen from its St. Bridget Parish.

The archdiocese said Adams, who was pastor at St. Bridget and St. Rose parishes, had been put on leave and was helping investigators.

The archdiocese also said there were no indications that any other people were involved.
