Apostolic Visitation set for New Year

The Primate of All Ireland Cardinal Sean Brady said today that he expects the Apostolic Visitation to Ireland to begin in the New Year.

Pope Benedict ordered the root and branch inspection of the Catholic Church earlier this year, following the Ryan and Murphy reports into clerical sex abuse.

The team of four investigators will meet victims of abuse and their families, as well as people involved in the safeguarding of children.

"The preliminary preparations have been made now," he said.

"It probably will take place in the New Year."
