Bishop Casey Tells All....Almost!! (1)

Bishop Eamon Casey has decided to allow the playing of tapes which would contain an interview outlining his life story to a friend from Tralee, but the story has been edited to the degree of omitting his situation in relation to having fathered a child with Annie Murphy which came to public prominence in 1992.

In the interviews, the now retired bishop states that the late Pope, John Paul II was reluctant to accept his resignation from the Diocese of Galway in the Vatican in May 1992 before he continued on his journey to South America.

It begs the question as to how much a role the present pontiff played in making sure that the resignation was accepted and who was rewarded since as it is well known that the Irish Hierarchy were only too glad to see the back of Casey whom they considered too much of a loose cannon (pardon the unintended pun!!).

Perhaps their loyalty will be rewarded when Il Papa now (eventually) comes to appointing successor bishops here in due course....

The interviews can be heard on RTÉ Radio 1 on the Morning Ireland Show....
