A Leawood priest charged with stealing more than $100,000 from his church appeared in court Thursday for violating the conditions of his bond.
Father Richard Storey, the now-former pastor of Curé of Ars Catholic Church, is accused of spending more than $159,000 in unauthorized charges on the parish credit card from 2021 to 2025.
The Archdiocese was also made aware by the Prairie Village Police Department of a criminal investigation involving Father Storey and another adult in September of 2025; the investigation remains ongoing.
He was arrested after surrendering to police in May – but has since been released on bond.
However, a judge was to decide Thursday if Storey’s bond will be revoked after he violated the terms of his release.
On Sept. 21, Johnson County District Court Judge Michael Joyce ordered Storey to report to his bond supervisor within 24 hours and continue to follow the conditions of his bond—or an arrest warrant would be issued.
The judge also ordered Father Storey to submit a urine sample prior to his court appearance.
Court records show that on Thursday, the judge granted the defense’s request for a continuance, and Storey has been ordered to appear in-person at the next hearing – which is a plea hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 11:15 a.m.
Father Storey announced his resignation in September as the pastor of Curé of Ars.
Father John Riley was appointed as interim administrator of the parish in February.
